Abstract
|
|
|
Hyporeninemic hypoaldosteronism has become widely appreciated only during the past decade, although selective aldosterone deficiency was first described by Relman et al. In 1957. Hyporeninemic hypoaldosteronism is most frequently caused by
diabetes
and
characterized by hyperkalemia, metabolic acidosis and decreased activity of the renin-angiotensin system. We should consider that hyporeninemic hypoaldosteronism is an overlooked cause of hyperkalemia, especially in diabetic patients whose
hyperkalemia
is unexplained.
We experienced two cases of hyporeninemic hypoaldosteronism in diabetic patients and report these cases with a review of literature.
